NZ Native Hebe Star Ball Hebe diosmafolia
Description: A compact and bushy Hebe, with small, dark green leaves and delicate pale mauve to white starry flowers in spring. It has been pruned into a ball shape, with a “starburst” like spray of branches and flowers.
Design Inspiration: Pretty in spring, and stylish year round, this Hebe can be grown in pots or be planted in the ground lining a side path or entrance.
Planting Conditions: Hebes like plenty of water and tend to perform better in part shade, or in morning sun / easterly positions, where they do not dry out. Otherwise they are wind and sun tolerant, if kept well watered.
Care: Water well, especially through the summer and in sunny, windy or dry conditions. For potted plants, feed annually with Osmocote, and topdress in Sping & Autumn with eg Osmoform. Deadhead and trim into a ball shape after flowering; and trim any branches that are out of balance throughout the year. Note trimming will reduce the number of flowers the following season.
