Mexican Orange Blossom Instant Hedge Choisya ternata
Description: Mexican Orange Blossom has dark glossy green leaves, with fragrant white flowers in October/November and April/May. As a hedge, it looks great year round.
Design Inspiration: A favourite plant for semi-formal hedging. Provides an elegant, leafy foil in front of fences and walls, eg on street fronts; plant in combination with a lower hedge or border; or arrange around a deck in rectangle planters.
Planting Conditions: Versatile, semi frost hardy, and grows in shade or sun and wind, and grows well in most Wellington conditions. Suitable to grow in the ground or in planters.
Care: If growing in a planter, water with 1 x bucket of water twice a week through summer and in hot, dry or windy weather; water with 1 x bucket of water through winter rain or shine. Feed with a topdressing fertiliser eg Osmoform twice a year in September & March; and with a slow release fertiliser eg Osmocote once a year in September. Responds well to pruning to encourage dense leafy growth. Hard prune after flowering to maintain shape and dense growth. Spray with a systemic pesticide eg Orthene to control caterpillars.
