Autumn Postcard 2007 - Container Design & Painted Trees
HEDGE Garden Design & Nursery - Container Design & Painted Trees

Enjoy your plants over summer & autumn in this fabulous seasonal pot, then swap them out for a new combination over winter & spring.

This summer/autumn we have selected sun/dry tolerant, purple and burnt orange foliaged plants and flowers for our pot (pictured in photos 1,2,4,5). The middle photo is a recent garden design using plants from the same palate. From left to right:-

1. Salvia “Black Knight”
Blackish purple flowers on long stems up to 1m tall, with fluted heart shaped leaves (dies down in winter).

2. Loropetalum “Plum Delight”
An evergreen, spreading/cascading plant with purple foliage and vibrant pink flowers throughout the year.

5. Painted Trees
Painting trees is a simple way to create some living sculpture in your garden, set here in a Seatoun garden against spikey, purple flowering Salvia "Indigo Spires" and orange flowering Lions' Ears Leonotis leonurus.

4. Euphorbia “Tui”
A compact Euphorbia with spikey/gnarley stems and purple foliage. We don’t mind (in fact we love) the leaves drying off a bit (as pictured), as this adds even more rusty colours and there is plenty of green provided by other plants in the pot.

5. Sedum “Munstead”
Rusty red flat flower heads in autumn, atop fleshy long stalks and fleshy green leaves. I love the flat flower heads, which fade to brown seedheads, but hold their structure over winter. Not pictured - this seasonal pot also includes Sedum “Matrona”, which is a slightly taller Sedum with soft dusky pink flowers.

We can create a fabulous seasonal pot for you - $225 each; or click here to find out how to design and look after your own fabulous seasonal pots.
