NZ Gardener - Ellerslie was back to its blooming best this year

Vegetables have been carefully coaxed into seed by Wellington student Rachael Matthews’ garden – it was inspired by her mum’s vege patch, which tended to run a bit wild at this time of year, she says. We loved her clever recycling – climbing frames for beans were made out of the stalks of toetoe, flax and elephant garlic flowers. And her space-saving ideas – the boardwalk lifted to reveal an underfoot composting system.
